Denis passed away peacefully in a nursing home in Plymouth on 8th January. He attended Monmouth School between 1943 - 1946. After his school years he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1953, then did National Service in the Royal Navy where he rose from a Writer in the Supply Branch to become a Sub-Lieutenant RNVR.
He was married for 69 years with three sons, Philip Simpson (1967-1974), Robert Simpson (1971-1978) and Richard Simpson (1976-1981), 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
He retired to Fowey, Cornwall in 1990 where he enjoyed golf and sailing among other things. In his retirement he spent time as the Treasurer for the Fowey RNLI branch and as Commodore of the Royal Fowey Yacht Club.
