Reunion Monmouth Schools’ Pakistan expeditions 1990-2000
Norman Morris is organising this special reunion of anyone associated with the six Monmouth School expeditions held over 1990 to 2000, please contact Norman directly email@example.com
“Monmouth School undertook six expeditions to the Karakoram and western Himalayas in Pakistan trekking in the mountains and passes up to 20,000ft between 1990 -2000. One of the achievements in 1998 was to reach the “Throne of the Gods” close to the K2 base camp with views of K2 clearly before us. The first time any School group had ever been there. They were all remarkable expeditions, well supported by the Haberdashers and the OM Club at the time which kept costs down. Extraordinary to recall that full costs including return airfare with Pakistan International Airways, full board, guides, and all in-country expenses with our hosts the Adventure Foundation (Pakistan) were no more than £1000 per head. At the beginning much less. Over the years nearly 100 went on these expeditions and there were further small group expeditions. Members of HMSG. Monmouth Comprehensive School, Caldicot School and Llandovery School also participated. 20-30 years on it’ll be good to recall those achievements and experiences with any of those who went on them at the Saturday 22 June OM Day. Leaders of the expeditions Rev Norman Morris and Mr David Owens plan to attend.
